ORLANDO, FL - (SZS) - The 2011 Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the church within which our synod is an expression of diversity and mission, was held from August 15-19 at the Mariott World Center in Orlando, Florida. The synod was represented within the voting membership of the assembly by the Rt. Rev. Wilma S. Kucharek, our bishop, the Rev. Rastislav Micovsky of Nativity Lutheran Church in Windsor, Ontario, and Mr. Carl Noll of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Trumbull, Connecticut.

The churchwide assembly is one of the ways in which our interdependent relationship is practiced. Congregations elect lay voting members to serve in synod assemblies. Clergy and those on the official lay rosters under call also participate as voting members in synod assemblies. Our Slovak Zion Synod Assembly, in each biennium, chooses clergy and lay voting members of the churchwide assembly. Our voting members gather with others from all over the ELCA as baptized members of this church assigned with the responsibility of serving our whole church throughout the assembly.

·The consideration of a church wide campaign to support work aimed at ending Malaria
·Consideration of the social statement "Genetics, Faith, and Responsibility"
·Consideration of recommendations from the Living Into the Future Together task force (LIFT) which is charged with renewing the ecology of the ELCA
