A couple of years ago, the Slovak Zion Synod Council began searching for a much more economic means for hosting an assembly. Bearing in mind the ever-rising costs of travel, and the mounting costs to the congregation incurred by the expenses for conference centers and food services in addition to hotel accommodations, the synod looked into the possibility of combining up those costs in order to substantially discount the final cost per person.
Cruise lines typically offer endless food, lavish meeting accommodations and spacious cabins in addition to a multitude of choices for personal entertainment. We continued to explore the feasibility of a cost-conscious assembly aboard a floating vessel. The results were shocking. In spite of the economic downturn, the effects of which many are still recovering from, trends showed that more people were cruising than ever before in favor of incredibly low rates newly offered by the cruise lines in order to lead off sailing capacities.
For our cruise assemblies, we have chosen Carnival as our provider for accommodations. These assemblies are a step up from the traditional, and a step down from the expensive. Through our experiences, the Slovak Zion Synod has proven that cruise assemblies have promise to them unlike any other venue we've seen before. In the years they have been held, these assemblies have seen livelier sessions, a jump in the attendance of lay voters and visitors alike, a consistency to attendance ensuring that congregations don't miss a single thing, and a new brand of fellowship never seen before!
